DESCRIPTION
The East Granby Youth Services Bureau (YSB) plans, evaluates, coordinates, and implements a range of resources and opportunities to support children, youth, and their families in East Granby. Current initiatives include after-school programs and groups that promote positive youth development and peer relationships, and substance abuse prevention, suicide prevention, driving under the influence/ distracted driving prevention, stress management, parent workshops, and family events.
The YSB uses both town funds from our operating budget and state, federal, and private grants to support its programs, activities, and events. Youth Services staff are shared with the Parks & Recreation Department, and all positions are part-time.
We are continuously adding new programs, activities, and events to better serve and engage children, youth, and their families in East Granby.

The Youth Action Councils are groups of students in grades 6-8 and 9-12, who work together to identify needs, increase public awareness, and serve East Granby youth. As the name suggests, the Middle School and High School groups are all about taking ACTION! Members develop leadership skills by choosing, planning, and carrying out various projects throughout the year.
The application process takes place each spring for the following academic year.
If you need emotional, behavioral, or mental health counseling for your child or family, please contact the Youth Services Office. We can provide you with a referral to local therapists who accept your insurance and are accepting new patients.
The East Granby Juvenile Review Board offers a community-based program to help divert eligible cases from the Juvenile Justice System. We support families by addressing their service needs and providing intervention locally.

The Youth Services Commission serves in an advisory capacity and supports the mission and staff of the YSB. Members are appointed by the Board of Selectmen and represent various segments of the community including law enforcement, education, children and families, and local businesses and organizations.
The Commission on Youth Services has seven members: five adults and two student representatives. Adults serve three-year terms, while students serve for at least one year.
The Commission meets the third Monday of each month, and meetings are open to the public.
