PROTECTION OF PUBLIC HEALTH AND SAFETY DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC REGARDING TOWN BOARD AND COMMISSION MEETINGS

Yesterday Governor Lamont issued an order temporarily suspending various requirements of the Freedom of Information Act for all municipalities as well as Town Ordinances and Board and Commission rule regarding “in-person” meetings.

Under this Order, Town Boards and Commissions may meet electronically or telephonically. Town Staff have set up a conference call account for Board and Commission Chairs to disseminate to their members and the public. The telephonic call-in number and password should be stated on the Agenda.

CONFERENCE CALL IN – 1-712-775-7031 LOGIN – 695692#

In order to do so, the public must have the ability to participate in the call and hear the meeting and participate. If possible, any materials being used at the meeting must should be available to the public and must be submitted to the Town Clerk for availability to the public within 24 hours of the meeting. Additionally, participants in the call must identify themselves prior to speaking. Minutes of the meeting must be available to the public within seven days.. The minutes should reflect which Board/Commission members attended in person or telephonically.

PLEASE NOTE: These requirements do not apply for public hearings. Public Hearing deadlines should be extended for the interim. More action from the Governor’s Office on statutory deadlines for land use Boards are expected today.
