The East Granby Volunteer Fire Department (EGFD) was called out at approximately 2:30 am this morning, September 23, 2020 to respond to smoke observed in the vicinity of Cowles Park parallel to Route 187 South. The EGFD located and treated the brush fire. Shortly after being extinguished, the fire erupted again and EGFD continues to be in active response mode. Support at the scene includes EGFD, Connecticut Air National Guard Fire Department (CTANG) and the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CTDEEP). The East Granby Police Department is providing traffic control support at the intersection of Spoonville Road and Route 187. Cowles Park is closed today and the parking area is being used as a staging area for emergency responders. The Town will continue to provide periodic updates on social media and the Town website.
