August 13, 2024 Early Voting Primary Election
Important dates regarding the August 13, 2024 Primary Election
To vote in a primary in the state of Connecticut you must be registered in that party to vote. Some dates to note:
May 13: Mail-In and Online Deadline for enrolled party members to transfer enrollmentfrom one party to the other, for voting in their “new” party primary.
August 2: Deadline for unaffiliated voters who want to vote during early voting period to enroll in a party
August 5-11: Early Voting will be held in the Mary Ellen Brown Senior/Community Center from
10am -6pm 8/5, 8/7, 8/9, 8/10, 8/11 AND 8am-8pm on 8/6 & 8/8 for the August 13 Primary. Election Day hours on 8/13/2024 will be as usual 6am to 8pm in the Mary Ellen Brown Senior/Community Center.
August 12 by 12:00pm: Deadline for registering in person with the registrar of voters or town clerk in your town of residence to vote on August 13. Deadline for unaffiliated voters to enroll in a party in person for voting on to vote on August 13. There is NO Same Day Registration on the day of the primary. Department Description
Registrar of Voters is an elected position governed by Connecticut General Statutes. Some of the duties include: registering eligible citizens to vote, maintaining voter lists, and administering all elections, primaries and referenda in an accurate and impartial manner. The Registrars are also responsible for hiring and training official poll workers, maintaining voting equipment and conducting an annual canvass of electors to determine changes of residence.

Are you eligible to Vote?
To register to vote in Connecticut you must:
- Be a United States citizen;
- Be a resident of a Connecticut town;
- Be at least 17 years old and turning 18 on or before election day (NOTE: 17 year olds who will turn 18 on or before election day may participate in general primary); and
- Have completed confinement if previously convicted of a disenfranchising felony
How to Register to Vote
- Register Online here using the Secretary of the State’s Online Voter Registration System. You may use this system to:
- Register to vote in Connecticut.
- Change your name and/or address on your current voter registration record. If you move, you must re-register to vote in your new town of residence. You may also use this form to change your address if you move within your current town.
- Enroll in a political party or change party enrollment. Changing parties may result in losing rights in all parties for three months.
- To register by mail, print the CT Voter Registration Application Form from the Secretary of the State’s website or email our office at [email protected] to request an application form to be sent to you by mail. Return the completed form to:

- Register in person or pick up a Voter Registration form at the Registrar of Voters’ office in the Community Center or the Town Clerk’s office in the Town Hall during their regular business hours.

Registration deadlines for new voters
Primary: Your application must be submitted by the 5th day before a primary (or received by your Registrar of Voters or a voter registration agency by the 5th day before a primary). You may apply in person to the Registrars or Town Clerk until 12:00 noon on the last business day before a primary.
Election: Your application must be submitted or received by a voter registration agency by the 7th day before an election (or you may register in person with the Registrar of Voters by the 7th day before an election).
NOTE: A voter who changes from one party to another acquires party privileges three months after filing a voter registration application with the Registrar of Voters.
POLL WORKERS NEEDED
Registered electors of the state and students age 16 years and older who are residents of East Granby may work at election events in town. Various paid positions are available. Please contact the Registrars’ office by email at [email protected] or call 860-653-0097 if you want to serve as a poll worker at an election event.
IMPORTANT DATES
APRIL 2, 2024 6:00 am – 8:00 pm: Presidential Primary
Early voting dates are expected to be 10am -6pm on 3/26, 3/27, 3/28, and 3/30. These times could change based on final state requirements.

During Registrars’ Regular Weekly Office Hours: Tuesdays, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm
Additional hours will be set once the Secretary of States Office determines requirements based on early voting.
ABSENTEE BALLOTS
Absentee Ballots are handled by the Town Clerk’s office. Information is available here under the Elections tab. Registrars do not issue Absentee Ballots.
