SCAM ALERT
East Granby Residents/Land Use Applicants

We want to alert you to a recent scam targeting individuals by impersonating various Town employees and committee members.

What’s happening:
We’ve been made aware of fraudulent messages (via email) going out to applicants requiring additional application fees for an application to be approved. So far, we are aware of emails impersonating Planning and Zoning staff. The Planning and Zoning impersonator used: “Planning Commission Town of East Granby <[email protected]” to send scam messages (read more below on how to identify a real Town of East Granby email address).

What you should know:

  1. We never ask for additional payments through wire transfer. Fees for any applications are discussed in person with the applicant or through our official emails.
  2. All email communications will come from our verified channels, such https://eastgranbyct.org, or an email domain ending in @egtownhall.com.
  3. If you receive any suspicious communication, do not click on any links or provide any information.

What to do if you’re contacted:

  1. Do not respond.
  2. Take a screenshot or copy the message.
  3. Report it to us immediately at 860-653-3444.

We take your security seriously and are actively working to shut down these scams. Please remain vigilant and contact us if you have any concerns.

Description

The Zoning Board of Appeals has the authority, within limits prescribed by state law, to vary the application of zoning regulations where literal application of those regulations would result in “exceptional difficulty or unusual hardship”. The Board also hears and decides appeals where it is alleged there has been an error in enforcement of a zoning regulation or decision.

The Board meets as required to address specific issues brought to it. Members of the Board are elected; the five regular members serve a five year term and the three alternates serve a two year term. In each municipal election there are two regular members on the ballot – one for a term beginning the January after the election and one for a term beginning a year from that January. All three alternates are elected in each municipal election.
