Effective: Posting – March 20, 2017 – April 3, 2017

Director of Social Services

The Town of East Granby is looking for an energetic and dependable person to be responsible for developing, maintaining and coordinating Municipal Social Service Programs to assist town residents.  Works closely with the Senior Services Director, appropriate Town Departments and the Friend to Friend Board of Directors.  Oversees the department’s budget and policies regarding participant involvement, program requirements and benefits.

Brief Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct service and support to residents as needed.
  • Prepares and manages the Energy Assistance Programs, works with local, state and federal resources.
  • Prepares and manages the Elderly and Totally Disabled Tax Relief Program for Renters.
  • Manages the East Granby Emergency Fuel Bank for residents in crisis.
  • Provides short-term crisis counseling and referrals to appropriate agencies for long-term assistance.
  • Serves as Municipal Agent for the Elderly.  Acts as liaison between residents and service providers. Works closely with various community organizations including the Salvation Army and Friend to Friend

Qualifications required but not limited to:

  • Bachelor’s degree Psychology or Social Work or a closely related area.  Relevant work experience can be substituted for the educational requirement.  
  • Two to three years of increasingly responsible experience in Social Services. 
  • Administrative experience and executive ability to initiate, organize and follow through on social service programs and projects
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational and computer skills.

Compensation: 

$21.00 per hour; part-time position - 20 hours per week
